A freezing rain warning is in effect for Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County for Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Environment Canada says sub-zero temperatures will create ice build-up and icy surfaces. Ice accretion of up to five millimetres is possible.

The warning comes after parts of Ontario saw power outages during the day on Saturday due to ice.

The forecast said Waterloo region would see a low of –1 C Saturday night into Sunday with a wind chill of –7 C.

"Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve," the weather warning said.

Rain mixed with freezing rain is expected early Sunday morning with rain ending in the afternoon. Sunday's high is 8 C.

Sunday evening, showers are likely and there's a risk of a thunderstorm. The low will be 5 C.
