Fadhwa Yusuf says anyone wanting to help Syrian refugees arriving in KW should donate small appliances

A two-day clothing drive by the African Family Revival Organization at the Kitchener Masjid Mosque has turned into a month-long project for organizers, who are still digging through bags of clothing donations.

Back in December Fadhwa Yusuf decided she wanted to help collect donations for Syrian refugees arriving in the region. Now the gym at the mosque is filled with donations.

"So far we've served over 20 families," said Yusuf.

"We try to make sure they get everything they need because they're starting from scratch."

Although there are plenty of clothes to go around, Yusuf said there are still shortages for many household items and electronics. She also says gift cards to Kishki World Foods, Food Basics and Walmart are welcome.

Here's a list of donations still needed.

Electronics, including

  • Microwaves
  • Toasters, kettles, blenders
  • Irons, vacuums

Household item including

  • Pots and pans
  • Plates and cups
  • Baking pans
  • Bath mats and curtains
  • Bed sheets, blankets
  • New pillows
  • Carpets

Children's items such as:

  • Strollers, high chairs
  • Diapers
  • New undergarments for all ages, including adults
