At least two routes on the Kitchener GO train line were cancelled on Monday because of staff illnesses.

Early in the morning, Metrolinx posted a notice cancelling the train scheduled for 7:15 a.m. Later in the day, it indicated the returning 5:21 p.m. train had also been cancelled.

A Metrolinx spokesperson said approximately 10 to 15 staff members were off due to COVID-19 as of Monday morning. Some had contracted COVID, while others are temporarily isolating because of potential exposure. They said the number of staff who are off fluctuates from day to day.

In a statement, the transit agency said commuters should expect "some minor adjustments and isolated and temporary train cancellations," promising to give as much advance notice as possible.

"We continue to work with Alstom, our train operator, who has been recruiting and training, and as more crews become available, we will continue to incrementally add more service," the statement said.

"We apologize to any of our customers who may be impacted if we need to make any temporary adjustments to their service."
