Starting in April, GO Transit will expand its train and bus schedule with new routes to and from Waterloo region.

As of April 8, Metrolinx says new two-way weekend GO service will be available on the Kitchener line, but people travelling from Waterloo region and Guelph will have to take a mix of bus and train to get into and out of Toronto.

The first eastbound weekend train on the Kitchener line will depart at 7:49 a.m. from the Mount Pleasant GO station to Union Station and will run hourly until 10:49 p.m.

The first westbound weekend train on the Kitchener Line will depart at 8:51 a.m. from Union Station to Mount Pleasant and run hourly until 11:51 p.m.

Metrolinx said it will be adding new weekend GO buses on routes 30 and 33 that will "seamlessly connect" with trains at Mount Pleasant and Bramalea.

It also said it is adding one new express trip from Kitchener in the morning, departing at 8:08 a.m, arriving at Union Station at 9:43 a.m.

New GO bus: Route 17

Also on April 8, Metrolinx is launching a new Waterloo to Hamilton connection. Route 17 will run hourly between the two cities with stops in Kitchener and Guelph.

"The new GO bus route 17 will reduce current travel times between Hamilton and Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph by more than an hour in each direction," wrote Metrolinx staff writer Mike Winterburn in an article on the company's website.

It will provide connections to the ION LRT, University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Guelph and McMaster University.

Metrolinx also announced some train routes in the province will be shifted to bus service during project construction and maintenance work on tracks.
