GRT wants to expand transit service by more than 50,000 hours to meet demand
GRT also wants community feedback on other proposals like fare increases, advertising
Looking ahead at 2024, Grand River Transit (GRT) says it wants to add 53,000 hours of additional service to meet ridership growth in the region.
That would include expanding service to areas like Elmira and Breslau, as well as add an extra MobilityPLUS vehicle. GRT is also looking at adjusting schedule and frequency for some bus and ION routes.
GRT set a new ridership record in September when ridership usually peaks. The service had logged 150,000 boardings per day. Of those boardings, 130,000 were on buses and 20,000 were on the ION.
GRT said it also wants people to weigh in on several other proposals on an online survey. Those include feedback on a 2.59 per cent increase to fares, implementing a new group pass and increasing transfer times from 90 to 120 minutes.
The service would also like community feedback on whether it should expand wrapped advertising on more buses and on ION trains.
Last month, regional council voted in favour of allowing community feedback on wrapped bus and ION advertisements.
