2 Guelph businesses targeted in string of liquor thefts
3 arrests made, police looking for two other men
Three people have been arrested and police in Guelph want to speak with two more after a string of liquor thefts in the city in the past few weeks.
Police say the thefts were all from the same two stores. Police will not confirm whether the stores are LCBOs, but there are LCBO locations at both intersections and alcohol was stolen in each incident.
Police say on the afternoon of Jan. 16, an adult male shoplifted $207.80 worth of alcohol from a store located near the intersection of Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road W.
The 40-year-old suspect was located downtown, according to police, and is now facing charges of theft under $5,000 and two counts of breach probation.
A woman is also facing charges after a separate liquor theft on the evening of Feb. 7. She allegedly shoplifted $87.80 worth of alcohol from a store near the intersection of Wellington Street W. and Gordon Street.
The 38-year-old has been charged with theft under $5,000.
That same day, police say, another woman shoplifted $27.45 of alcohol from the same store at Wellington Street W. and Gordon Street.
Police say they later found a 34-year-old suspect in a downtown apartment and have charged her with theft under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation.
"At this point we don't have any information as to [the incidents] being planned, linked or co-ordinated, but you can never rule it out," said Const. Kyle Grant of the Guelph Police Service.
Police looking for two men
On Feb 10, police say, two men stole $189.90 worth of alcohol from the Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road W. store.
No arrests have been made.
Police say there may have been other cases of liquor theft in the city as well.
"There could potentially be more where the investigations are still ongoing or arrests haven't been made," Grant said. "There could also be more that, perhaps, these stores haven't realized."
