Warm temperatures cause ice jams, flooding along Grand River watershed
Warmer temperatures have cause ice jams on waterways throughout the Grand River watershed, causing flooding in some areas including Wilmot township and Cambridge.
Some road closures in Wilmot township and Cambridge due to flooding
Warmer temperatures has caused some areas along the Grand River watershed to experience flooding Tuesday morning as a result of ice jams on waterways.
The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) said waterways throughout the watershed are covered in ice, which can cause flooding, but don't anticipate any major flooding from the runoff.
GRCA adds the ice on the waterways now is weaker than the ice that caused major ice jams and flooding in Cambridge and Brantford in February 2018.
"Grand Valley, West Montrose, New Hamburg and Cayuga all face a heightened risk of ice jams at this time of year," GRCA said in a release.
However, flooding has prompted road closures in Cambridge and Wilmot Township:
- Lisbon Road E. starting at Nafziger Road in Wilmot Township is closed due to water over the road from the Nith River.
- In Cambridge, Black Bridge Road, Riverside Park and Mill Run trail have been closed due to flooding.
