Bridge in Kitchener's Victoria Park to be closed for repairs until summer

Heritage Bridge in Kitchener's Victoria Park is currently closed as the city does a comprehensive inspection of it. The bridge will remain closed until later this year while the inspection and necessary repairs are completed.

Heritage Bridge in Kitchener's Victoria Park is currently closed to both foot and vehicle traffic and the city says a comprehensive inspection of it is set to get underway.

The bridge was closed to vehicles earlier this year due to structural concerns such as wood rot and deterioration of bridge stringers, or beams.

A city spokesperson says the bridge needs to be inspected to understand what repairs are required and to determine how much that will cost.

"Construction is expected to begin in the spring or summer, and the bridge will reopen once construction is complete, likely later this summer," the city said. " Out of an abundance of caution, the bridge will be closed to pedestrian traffic while further inspections take place and until repairs are complete."

Heritage Bridge connects a pathway along Jubilee Drive with Roos Island, where the pavilion is located.

The island will still be accessible by taking the bridge from the trail that runs alongside Roland Street.
