A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School.

A staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement posted to the high school's website.

A student at the school tested positive for the virus earlier this week. The two individuals are part of the same cohort.

That classroom has been sent home, the school said, but no other classrooms are impacted at this time.

The school remains open.

"The [Waterloo Region District School Board] is working with Region of Waterloo Public Health to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in students, staff and the community," the school said in a statement.

The public school board has 12 cases in schools as of Friday. It includes two staff members and 10 students.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board has reported two cases in two separate schools. Both cases are in students.
