1 man dead after shooting at Kitchener plaza

There will be an increased police presence at an Ottawa Street plaza in Kitchener as regional police investigate a fatal overnight shooting.

Nearby businesses may be impacted as officers with WRPS major crime unit continue to investigate

A man is dead after a shooting at a Kitchener plaza overnight.

Waterloo regional police were called to the area of Ottawa Street N. and River Road E. for reports of a shooting Wednesday at 2 a.m.

One person was transported to hospital. Police said the man, who is in his mid-20s, was pronounced dead in an out-of region hospital.

Police will be in the area throughout the day as officers with the major crime unit continue to investigate, which could impact nearby businesses, police said.

On Wednesday morning, three cruisers were at the scene of the shooting and police tape marked off the parking lot outside the McDonald's restaurant in the plaza.

A white Toyota crossover SUV was seen in the parking lot with its doors open. It was the only vehicle in the parking lot. A shoe was visible under the vehicle along with clothing on the ground beside the SUV.
