Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo have all extended their snow events to Thursday at noon, meaning drivers will need to ensure their vehicles aren't parked on city streets until then.

The extension is "so that staff can complete an additional full plow of the city," Kitchener said in a release.

Vehicles parked on the street may be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense.

The snow event started on Monday as a winter storm began dumping snow in Waterloo region. It led to schools being closed on Tuesday, while buses were cancelled on Wednesday.

Blowing snow and more on the way

The region remains under a blowing snow advisory on Wednesday. Environment Canada reports strong westerly winds up to 70 km/h will cause "widespread blowing snow" and the area could see up to five centimetres of snow.

"Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions," Environment Canada said.

Gerald Cheng, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said Thursday will see a "brief pause" in the snow, but expect some snow and rain later on.

"Thursday night, another system is making its way through southern Ontario and we're expecting some more snow," he said. "During the day Friday, it could change over to rain."
