Kitchener city council turns down music at Ever After music festival
The electronic dance music festival drew in over 100 noise complaints in 2017
Ever After Music Festival will be quieter in 2018.
Kitchener city council approved a noise exemption for the electronic dance music festival that will allow the three-day event to go on — as long as organizers turn the music down.
In 2017, the festival sparked over 100 noise complaints on its final day, Sunday.
In response, the city approved a decrease in noise levels coming from the venue to 55 decibels, down from 65. Additionally, the festival must end at 9 p.m. on Sunday June 10.
Staff made the recommendations in early January but council deferred the issue to the Jan. 29, meeting.
Council also approved staff recommendations that the festival to refrain from using offensive language that might be audible to the adjacent residential neighbourhood and to pay for a noise officer to be on site.
The annual electronic dance music (EDM) festival is scheduled to run from Friday, June 8 at 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 10 at Bingemans in Kitchener's east end.
It's expected more than 25,000 people will attend this year's festival.
