A 58-year-old man injured in a house explosion in Kitchener on Aug. 22 remains in hospital, police say.

Waterloo regional police have not identified him, but friends and family say it's Udo Haan. His wife, Edra Haan, 58, was found dead in the backyard of the home following the explosion at 56 Spricedale Cres.

Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Investigators have been waiting to be able to speak with Udo Haan. He was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital after the explosion with critical injuries and was in intensive care.

"The male remains in hospital recovering from his injuries and our investigators will be speaking to him after receiving approval from the hospital's medical doctors," Waterloo Regional Police Service spokesperson Cherri Greeno told CBC K-W. "He is in stable condition."

Police said the investigation continues.
