A new distillery is getting set to open in Mapleton township this summer.

Pepprell Distilling currently makes gin at Last Straw Distillery Corp. in Vaughan.

Kitchener-based Open Sky Ventures, formerly Open Sky Incubator, is one of the investors and announced on Monday Pepprell will open its own manufacturing facility in Mapleton this summer.

The company's gin is currently for sale online and is being used at bars and restaurants in Waterloo region.

News of the distillery comes just weeks after John Sleeman announced he is behind a new craft distillery in Guelph.

Sleeman, who founded Sleeman Breweries, is the driving force behind Spring Mill Distillery, which will be located in The Metalworks, a condo development near Guelph's downtown.

Other distilleries in and around Waterloo region include Murphy's Law in Elmira, Willibald in Ayr, Junction 56 in Stratford and Dixon's Distilled Spirits in Guelph.
