Couples struggling to conceive often turn to in vitro fertilization for help and until last week in Ontario, that option was extremely expensive.
Now the Ontario government is proposing to pay for one cycle of IVF for women trying to conceive, starting in early 2015.
However, that does not cover the cost of drugs and services associated with IVF, or further rounds of the treatment.
By comparison, Quebec pays for three to six rounds of IVF, as well as the associated drugs.
At 7:40 a.m. on The Morning Edition we'll hear from our parenting columnist Tenille Bonoguore about what this announcement means for families in Ontario and her own personal experiences with IVF.
Whether it's the time, the money, the commitment or the chance it could fail on the first (or second or third) round, IVF is not an easy experience for couples hoping to be parents. Tenille will answer your questions about IVF here in our live chat starting at 8:00 a.m. .
