Waterloo regional police say a 30-year-old Kitchener woman and a 6-year-old boy from Guelph suffered life-threatening injuries when they were hit by a GO train Wednesday afternoon at Lancaster Street W. and Victoria Street N. in Kitchener.

Police say they were attempting to walk across the tracks when they were struck by a westbound train.

The two know one another but are not related, according to police.

Both were airlifted by Ornge ambulance to hospitals in Hamilton where they remain in hospital.

Ornge ambulance spokesperson Joshua McNamara told CBC Wednesday a female patient in her 30's was being transported to Hamilton General Hospital with life threatening injuries, and a pediatric patient was being sent to McMaster University Medical Centre.
