Via Rail to add morning, evening weekday trip between Stratford, Toronto
Additional weekday trips could begin in 2016
Via Rail plans to add a new weekday train from Stratford to Toronto leaving at 6:30 a.m., plus a return train departing from Union Station at 4:30 p.m.
Maxime Dupont-Demers, senior advisor of corporate communications at Via Rail Canada, says the new service is expected to start in early 2016.
The train would make stops along the route in Kitchener, Guelph, Georgetown, Brampton and Malton. Specific arrival and departure times are currently undetermined. Dupont-Demers says the new trip will be implemented on weekdays at first, but could also be offered on weekends if there is sufficient demand.
"Before offering this new service, we need to address details and operating schedule with the infrastructure owners. Once this is completed, we will be able to finalize our network planning and set a start date," said Dupont-Demers in an email.
Dupont-Demers said ticket prices will be in line with current trip prices.
There are currently two trains from Stratford to Toronto, one leaving at 8:40 a.m. and arriving close to 11 a.m. The second leaves at 9:05 p.m. and arrives at 11:17 p.m. The economy fare ranges from $60 for the morning train and $52 for the night train.
