Waterloo Catholic school board chair steps down effective immediately
Robert Sikora has held the position since the 2023 election

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) says Robert Sikora has stepped down as board of trustees chair effective immediately.
This comes as the board remains under scrutiny for an upcoming motion set to be voted on at the end of April regarding the banning of all flags on WCDSB properties that aren't Canadian, Ontarian or with the school board logo.
The board announced Sikora was stepping down as chair on Wednesday, in a notice on its website.
"In the interim, vice-chair Linda Cuff will serve as acting chair until a new chair is elected," reads the posting.
No reason was provided for Sikora's sudden resignation. He'll remain as a trustee for Cambridge.
The notice adds that a special board meeting is now scheduled for April 14.
"At that time, trustees will follow the procedures outlined in the board's bylaws to elect a new chair."
The board of trustees elect who will be chair and vice-chair. Sikora has held the chair position since November 2023.
