Waterloo councillors tackle self portraits for We are Waterloo project
Councillors could only look in a mirror and not at what they were drawing during art project
The We are Waterloo portrait project has received seven new submissions: all of Waterloo's city councillors.
During their May 16 council meeting, they were asked to draw self portraits. Art instructors from the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery helped the councillors with their "blind contour drawing," meaning the councillors could not look at the pen or paper as they "traced" what they saw in a mirror.
The councillors' self portraits were provided to CBC News by city staff.
So, how did they do?
Mayor David Jaworsky
Coun. Angela Vieth
Coun. Brian Bourke
Coun. Freeman
Coun. Jeff Henry
Coun. Mark Whaley
Counc. Melissa Durell
Coun. Bob Mavin was not at the May 16 meeting and did not complete a self portrait.
We are Waterloo portrait workshops have taken place monthly since January. They're free, and have featured instruction from a diverse range of instructors and artists with a range of portraiture techniques.
Portraits completed by Waterloo citizens will be included in an exhibit at the City of Waterloo Museum in January 2017 to celebrate Canada's sesquicentennial.
