11 people with COVID-19 in ICU at Waterloo region hospitals
63 new cases of COVID-19 in region as of Monday
There are 16 people with COVID-19 in Waterloo region's hospitals and 11 of them are in intensive care units.
Region of Waterloo Public Health released the new numbers on Monday as it updated its reporting dashboard on its website. The region is currently in the "red zone" of the province's COVID-19 framework.
Public health reports there are 63 new cases of COVID-19 in the region as of Monday. That brings the total this month to 928 and the total since March to 3,082. Of that, 2,596 have been marked as resolved with 123 deaths.
There are 363 active cases of the virus in the region.
The region's testing partners have done more than 196,500 tests.
Ontario reported 1,589 more cases of COVID-19 on Monday, another single-day record.
21 active outbreaks
There are 21 active outbreaks, including two at long-term care and retirement homes.
There is also one outbreak of 22 cases at Village Manor in St. Jacobs. The assisted living facility is not considered a retirement home but rather a congregate setting. The home appealed an order issued by the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority to have its licence revoked earlier this year, then ceased operating as a retirement home as defined in the Retirement Homes Act.
St. Mary's General Hospital has been ordered to take over management of Village Manor in St. Jacobs as it deals with the outbreak that has infected 19 people living there and three staff members.
Three other congregate settings, which can include group homes, have outbreaks: two have two cases each and the third has one case.
An outbreak linked to Algarve Restaurant in Kitchener has risen to 41 cases. Public health is advising anyone who may have gone to the restaurant, located at 248 Stirling Avenue S., between Oct. 28 to Nov. 4, that they may have been exposed to COVID-19.
There is also an outbreak at a "racquet sports-related" facility where there are 18 cases. The region has not identified the location.
Other outbreaks include:
- One related to a dance class with two cases.
- One related to hockey with eight cases.
- Three at manufacturing workplaces: One with nine cases, and two outbreaks with three cases each.
- One food processing workplace with five cases.
- One construction site with two cases.
- Two at food and beverage services workplaces: one with two cases and the other with four.
- One trades workplace with three cases.
- One at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in the wing b, level four medicine unit.
2 school outbreaks
Also among the active outbreaks at two outbreaks at schools: one at Centennial Public School in Waterloo with two cases and one at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Elementary School in Kitchener with two cases.
The Centennial outbreak involves a staff member who attended the school while awaiting COVID-19 test results. The staff member later tested positive, resulting in the dismissal of six classrooms.
According to the school board, the staff member was symptomatic and attended the school up until Tuesday, a day before the person found out they were COVID-19 positive.
Dismissed staff and students have been asked to isolate until Dec. 2.
