Waterloo region sees record high 203 new COVID-19 cases Sunday

Waterloo region hit its record high number of new COVID-19 cases on Sunday with 203 reported infections.

There is one new reported death, bringing the total number of deaths to 175.

The region's active cases rose by 102, which means there are currently 1,087 active COVID-19 cases in the region. Since March, there have been 7,339 infections in the region.

Twenty-three people are hospitalized, with nine in the intensive care unit.

On Saturday, the region reported 133 new COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Ontario is also reporting a record-breaking high on Sunday with 3,945 new cases and 61 more deaths.

35 outbreaks

Of the 35 active outbreaks in the region, 16 are in long-term care and retirement facilities.

There are 13 cases each in residents and staff at Chartwell Westmount Long-Term Care Residence. One person has died.

Cambridge Country Manor continues to grapple with an ongoing outbreak with 60 cases in residents, 68 in staff and 16 deaths.

There are outbreaks at four congregate settings, one with 19 linked cases.

There are outbreaks at six manufacturing facilities, one with 15 linked cases.

Other outbreaks include:

• At a restaurant with two cases.
• At a police service with three cases.
• At a farm with four cases.
• At a hockey sports facility with five cases.
• At a retail store with three cases.
• At a restaurant with four cases.
• At a food processing facility with 82 cases.
• At Grand River Hospital, Mental Health Unit.
