Woolwich council results in: Shantz won mayorship unchallenged
Sandy Shantz had an easy election night Monday after being acclaimed to her role as mayor of Woolwich in July.
Shantz said earlier in the summer she was "very excited and really honoured" she will get to continue her role as Woolwich's mayor.
Voting in Woolwich was extended until 8 p.m. Tuesday night after problems with the online voting system.
The elected are:
- Ward One (two council seats): Scott McMillan and Patrick Merlihan.
- Ward Two (one council seat): Fred Redekop
- Ward Three (acclaimed, two council seats): Murray Martin and Larry Shantz.
Candidates for council
In Ward One, two councillors were to be elected and three people ran for those seats. Incumbents Patrick Merlihan and Julie-Anne Herteis, who was appointed by council in March after Scott Hahn resigned due to job commitments, faced challenger Scott McMillan.
In Ward Two, two people were seeking the single council seat: Fred Redekop and Eric Schwindt. Kevin Betts withdrew his nomination on July 27, while current councillor Mark Bauman did not seek re-election.
Ward Three councillors, Murray Martin and Larry Shantz, were both acclaimed.
