Legere accomplice gets day parole

One of Allan Legere's accomplices has received day parole. Scott Curtis is serving a life sentence for helping Legere and Todd Matchett for murdering John Glendenning from Black River and sexually assaulting Glendenning's wife.. Curtis will now be going to a half way house in Saint John.

Scott Curtis was 19 at the time of the crime. Now he's 34 and told the parole board he is changing his ways because he has had enough of doing time.

The board noted that until 5 years ago Curtis was considered a trouble maker and manipulative. But in 1995 he started changing his ways.

Brian Chase of the parole board says the board feels it's time for Curtis to move to a half way house to continue his rehabilitation process.

But board members are still concerned. They told Curtis he has trouble managing stress and taking responsibility for his actions.

The parole board did note that Curtis has been working in Moncton with the headstart program he held several responsible positions and never got into trouble. He also interacted successfully with the public at fundraising events and has been back to Miramichi to visit his ailing father. Chase says those visits will continue.

"Again, the risk was assumable that he could return. He has returned there a number of times, already," he said.

But the board also warned Curtis to be careful about his relationships. He's been married twice while in prison and now has a new girlfriend.

Curtis says he has various job prospects and his brother gave him some money after winning a lottery prize.
