Liberals win B.C. byelection

The B.C. Liberals have won the Parksville-Qualicum provincial by-election.

The byelection was seen as a major test for Liberal Opposition Leader Gordon Campbell.

A loss in a Liberal riding would have raised questions about Campbell's ability to lead his party to victory over the NDP in the next provincial elections.

The Liberals first won the seat in the 1996 election, but Paul Reitsma was kicked out of caucus and later resigned after it was revealed he wrote phony letters to the editor in praise of himself.
