What's the situation for the London area?
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported 95 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, pushing the total number of positive cases in the region to 4,038 since the pandemic began.
The seven-day average for cases in the region is now at 110.
Two more residents of long-term care have died due the virus, including a man in his 60s and another in his 70s. The death toll for the region is now up to 116, according to the MLHU.
Known active cases of COVID-19 in Middlesex-London are now up to 1,006.
What's the situation at local hospitals?
According to London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), there are 41 COVID-positive patients, with 12 of them in intensive care. The number of staff infected with the virus is 31.
Victoria Hospital is dealing with three ongoing outbreaks, including the unit that treats pregnant women, which was declared Wednesday.
Active outbreaks include D5-300 Medicine (Dec. 31), D7-200 Medicine (Jan. 1) and B41 Antenatal (Jan. 6).
What's the situation at seniors' homes?
The MLHU reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 at area long-term care homes, including nine residents and 16 staff. There have been 146 new cases in long-term care so far this year. Four residents have died.
There was one new case of coronavirus at a retirement home involving a staff member.
There are seven seniors' facilities that are continuing to battle outbreaks in the region.
COVID-19 across the region and beyond
Southwestern Public Health, which includes St. Thomas, Aylmer and Woodstock, reported 21 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, along with five more deaths.
Two seniors' homes in the region continue to grapple with devistating outbreaks, including PeopleCare Tavistock, which has 63 cases and five deaths. Maple Manor Nursing Home has 98 cases as of Thursday and seven people have died.
Meanwhile, Ontario reported a record 3,519 new cases of coronavirus, along with 89 more deaths.
The number of people being treated for the virus in hospital is now up to 1,835. There are 363 patients in critical care, including 242 who are on ventilators.
