6 new cases of COVID-19 in London area Monday as testing record set Sunday

The Middlesex-London Health Unit reported six new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, one day after declaring a community outbreak.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting six new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, a day after declaring a community outbreak.

The health unit declared the outbreak after three Western University students tested positive on Saturday. Two more confirmed student cases were reported Sunday and are included in today's count.

According to the health unit, all of the cases reported Monday involved people in their 20s. Four of the patients are male and two are female. The exposure source for four cases is linked to an outbreak, while two others were in contact with a confirmed case.

There were 453 people tested at the Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre on Sunday, the highest number of single-day tests at a London assesement centre. On Saturday, 397 people went for a test.

There are now 21 known active cases in Middlesex-London. The local total is up to 756 positive cases, with over 97 per cent considered resolved, according to data from the health unit.

COVID-19 across the region and beyond

The Southwestern Public Health Unit, which includes St. Thomas, Woodstock, and Elgin and Oxford counties, reported no new cases of COVID-19 Monday. The local case count is up to 256 with three known active cases in the region.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported four new COVID-19 cases Monday, following 18 new infections reported over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Ontario reported 313 additional cases on Monday, the highest daily case count since early June.

The number of cases province-wide has been on an upswing since mid-August, with numbers above 200 since Sept. 12.
