One person is dead, and another was airlifted to hospital following a crash between an SUV and delivery truck on the same road that took the lives of five people two weeks earlier.

Emergency crews responded to Tuesday's collision at about 9:05 a.m. at the intersection of Road 84 and 31st Line, east of Thorndale.

Oxford County OPP said the passenger of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the SUV was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the delivery truck suffered minor injuries.

The identity of the dead has not been released.

The collision happened occurred several concessions away from the multi-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of four students and a teacher on Road 84 and Cobble Hills Roads on May 23.

Police have not yet said what caused that crash but once they have, local politicians said they will be advocating to improve highway safey measures.

The intersection of Road 84 and 31st Line remained closed Tuesday afternoon. The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team is investigating the cause of the crash.
