1 death, 52 new COVID-19 cases in the London area since Friday

The Middlesex-London Health Unit reported 52 new COVID-19 cases since Friday and the death of a woman in her 80s. There were 19 cases reported on Saturday, 22 cases on Sunday and 11 cases on Monday.

Recent developments:

  • Ontario is reporting 600 new COVID-19 cases and six more deaths on Monday.
  • There have now been eight COVID-19 cases reported at seven London schools.
  • Seven inpatients are being treated for COVID-related illnesses at London hospitals.

What's the latest situation for the London area?

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported 52 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, along with the death of a woman in her 80s who was fully vaccinated.

The latest tally includes 19 cases of COVID-19 reported on Saturday, 22 reported Sunday and 11 on Monday. Of those, the majority were among people aged 25-39 (15 cases) and those 40-65 (15 cases).

There were 29 confirmed cases of the delta variant of concern from previously reported cases, according to the MLHU. There have now been 576 cases of the delta variant in Middlesex-London since late May.

The health unit posted 68 recoveries since Friday, with 193 known active cases in the region. The rolling seven-day average of daily cases decreased to 19.

London Health Sciences Centre says it is treating seven patients with COVID-19-related illnesses. There are five or fewer patients in adult critical care and five or fewer patients with COVID-19 in the Children's Hospital.

Five or fewer staff members at the hospital network have tested positive for the virus and are in quarantine.

COVID-19 cases at London schools

The Thames Valley District School Board reported another four cases of COVID-19 at three London schools:

  • Kensal Park French Immersion Public School (2 cases)
  • Lambeth Public School (1 case)
  • Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School (1 case)

The school board says a letter has been sent to only those families whose children were in close contact to an identified case. Only staff and students who came in close contact are being advised to stay home and quarantine for 14 days.

The MLHU also reported a case of COVID-19 at École élémentaire La Pommeraie, with Conseil scolaire Viamonde. There have now been eight cases at area schools and one case reported at a child care centre in the last week.

Last year, there were 470 COVID-19 cases in school and child care settings, including 208 in elementary school and 143 in high schools.

Here's where the pop-up vaccination clinics are

There are no pop-up vaccination clinics being offered by the health unit on Monday.

The MLHU is hosting one pop-up clinic on Tuesday:

  • London Public Library - Sherwood Branch, 1225 Wonderland Road North, available from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

COVID-19 updates across the region

Southwestern Public Health reported 28 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday and no new deaths. There are currently 50 known ongoing cases in Elgin-Oxford, including 12 in Woodstock and 10 in St. Thomas.

Huron Perth Public Heath reported four new COVID-19 cases on Monday. There 32 known active cases in the region.
