The London Public Library is dealing with a major systems outage, with the shutdown affecting everything from the library's website to its electronic system for borrowing materials.

The outage began sometime Wednesday morning.

A sign on the main floor of the Central Library informs patrons of a "major systems outage."

The sign says "all library systems are down, including public computers, printing, website, catalogue and all digital resources."

In a Facebook post, the library posted a service alert stating that the Carson, Glanworth and Lambeth branches will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will remain closed until next week.

"We will post updates but expect that it will take some time to restore these systems," the post said.

In-person borrowing is available at the library's 16 branches and public spaces in library branches remain available for use.

It's not clear what caused the shutdown, or when it might be resolved.

A spokesperson confirmed the outage is not affecting City of London computer systems, which are independent of the library's network.

More to come.
