Four people were injured following a crash between a police car and a city bus in downtown London, Wednesday.

The collision triggered an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates any incident involving police and an injured person.

According to the London Police Service, one of the force's vehicles was traveling in the area of Talbot Street and Queens Avenue around 1:50 p.m., when it collided with a London Transit Commision (LTC) bus.

The driver of the bus and three passengers were injured, police said. The injuries of one passenger were serious, but non-life threatening, police said, adding all three passengers were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The officer was uninjured.

The crash caused major delays, and resulted in an hours-long closure of Queens Avenue between Talbot and Ridout Streets that extended into the rush-hour.

It's unclear what caused the crash, and LTC officials did not immediately respond to a request for information.
