London police are investigating after anti-LGBTQ graffiti was written in chalk on sidewalks outside of two local library branches Tuesday.

Library staff at Crouch on Hamilton Road and Landon in Wortley Village reported phrases critical of gender identity and LGBTQ-inclusive education policies written outside the doors.

"I think the two branches were hit because we've had drag stories at both of these locations last year," manager of customer service and branch operations Chelsie Abraham said.

Police confirmed they are investigating saying the case is "active and ongoing".

"This has affected staff very powerfully and their response is that they want their voices to be heard," Abraham said.

She said library staff want to organize a pro-LGBTQ protest or event to show that the library remains a safe place.

"We're just reassuring patrons that walk into the library that we are here for Londoners, we're here for the community," library spokesperson Ellen Hobbins said.
