The City of Winnipeg wants to give active transportation a big boost — $330 million dollars to be exact.
The funds are part of a 20-year plan to encourage walking and cycling in Winnipeg.

The city says they heard opinions from thousands of Winnipeggers, which helped them develop long and short term strategies to get people out and active.
The plan includes expanding the bicycle and sidewalk network, bicycle parking, a facelift to pedestrian and cyclist crossings, safe and well-lit routes, facilities for pedestrians and cyclists and maintenance for the bicycle and sidewalk network.
According to the city, consideration will be given to this commitment in the yearly budgeting process and the use of funds will be approved by council on a yearly basis through the pedestrian and cycling action plan.
