CBC Manitoba is buzzing after two beehives were installed on the roof of our Portage Avenue building on Thursday.

Beeproject Apiaries installed two hives Thursday evening, in an effort to increase biodiversity downtown and help combat the decline in the world bee population.

In February, a City of Winnipeg committee voted in favour of allowing beekeepers to maintain hives in the downtown area for a permit fee of $200.

The Fort Garry Hotel is also housing hives – a total of five – on its roof.
