The body of a teenager who went missing while swimming with friends in southern Manitoba has been recovered, according to RCMP.

The 17-year-old boy's body was found Friday at about 10:45 p.m. by divers brought in by the family, RCMP said.

On Wednesday, RCMP were called to a diversion dam in the Rural Municipality of Rhineland, about five kilometres east of Winkler, around 9:30 p.m.

The teen was swimming with two other boys — his brother and his best friend — when he went under the water and didn't resurface.

The area where the boys were swimming was fast-flowing due to recent heavy rains, RCMP said.

Crews from the Winkler and Morden fire departments also helped in the search.

The body was found about 70 metres east of the dam, RCMP said.

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.
