Calgary man faces 2 counts of attempted murder in Brandon shooting

Brandon police have charged a 61-year-old Calgary man in connection with a shooting in Brandon, Man., Thursday afternoon that sent a man and a teenage girl to hospital.

Police in Brandon, Man., have charged a Calgary man in connection with a shooting Thursday afternoon that sent a man and a teenaged girl to hospital.

Police say the victims, a 39-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, both from the southwestern Manitoba city, were shot with a shotgun during a robbery at a business on Highland Avenue near First Street, adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway.

Both victims were rushed to hospital in Brandon, and the teenage victim was later taken to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg — 200 kilometres to the east — with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Police have charged a 61-year-old man from Calgary with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent and obtaining sexual services for consideration. 

The accused appeared in Brandon court Friday and has been remanded into custody.

Police continue to investigate.
