4 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Manitoba on Tuesday

There are four new cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba, says a bulletin issued by the province on Tuesday.

There are four new cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba, says a bulletin issued by the province on Tuesday.

Of the new cases, three are from the Prairie Mountain Health Region: a woman in her 20s and two men in their 30s.

There is also one new case in Winnipeg — a man in his 20s.

The total number of cases in Manitoba is 562, with 194 active cases.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 1.27 per cent.

It's the first time in five days Manitoba has seen new cases in the single digits.

"Of the total cases, many are linked to known clusters in Brandon or are close contacts of previously announced cases," but some are community transmission, the bulletin says.

There are five people currently in hospital, with three in intensive care.

People who went to the Tim Horton's on the Trans-Canada Highway at 18th Street in Brandon on Aug. 1, 3 and 4 could have been exposed to the virus, the bulletin says.

While the possibility of transmission is considered low, the information is being provided to help people assess their risk, it says.

On Monday, Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin announced a cluster in Brandon, Man., had grown to 64.

There are currently 86 active cases in Prairie Mountain Health Region, which includes Brandon, the provincial dashboard says.

The western Manitoba city's only testing site is still reporting "overwhelming demand" for tests, the health region said in a statement on Tuesday.

A second site, which was scheduled to open on Wednesday morning, actually opened on Tuesday afternoon at the Keystone Centre.

Moving forward, the sites will be open:

  • Monday to Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
  • Sunday from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Another 1,059 lab tests were done on Monday, bringing the total number of tests completed since early February to 104,841.

There were 16 new cases on Monday, 35 on Sunday, 16 on Saturday, 17 on Friday and 30 on Thursday.
