Federal election needs to be about Canada's cities, Brian Bowman says
The mayors' priorities are infrastructure, housing and public transit
Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman will be among Canadian mayors pushing federal party leaders in the upcoming election for commitments of direct funding to municipalities.
Bowman attended the Federation of Canadian Municipalities annual conference last week and the group of mayors designated their three top priorities they want to see discussed: infrastructure, public transit and housing.
The most recent federal budget was an excellent place to start, Bowman said, they should be applauded for their designated public transit fund.
"We've invited all of the leaders to attend and we're hopeful that we'll be able to get them all there to discuss city issues because we're going to build Canada by building our cities," Bowman said.
Bowman did not mention an exact dollar amount for what would be ideal for federal parties to commit to the federation of municipalities.
