Fire has destroyed a funeral home in Beausejour, Man.

Crews were called to the Knysh Funeral Home at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and remained at the burning building through most of the night.

Firefighters from four different departments fought the blaze. Some were still on scene Tuesday morning, mopping up and watching for hot spots.

"We've got some hot spots we're working on, just places burning in the walls and that we're trying to get at; then let it clear up and then we start the investigation part," said Beausejour fire chief Jamie Kines.

Beausejour Mayor Brad Saluk went out at about 2:30 a.m. to see the fire, and said flames were shooting 10 to 15 metres in the air.

Saluk says it was a historic building, probably one of the first built in the town.

"It's another one of our landmarks that are going to be gone. And the owner of that funeral home … was mayor of the community as well at one time," he said.

No one was hurt.

There were no bodies inside the funeral home at the time.

Beausejour is located about 50 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
