The southern section of Manitoba's Highway 75 is closed due to poor winter driving conditions, the province says.

All lanes of the key trucking route were closed from the U.S. border to Morris — about 60 kilometres south of Winnipeg — just after noon on Saturday, the province said in a statement.

The section of the highway from Morris to Winnipeg remains open but is ice-covered, according to Manitoba 511, which provides road condition information.

Southern Manitoba was hit by the first significant snowfall of the season this week, with a system moving in from North Dakota Thursday night and spreading through the southern Red River Valley and east to the Whiteshell area.
