Drunk driver killed cyclist in Winnipeg hit-and-run, police allege

A 24-year-old man faces three charges, including impaired driving causing death, after a cyclist was killed in a hit and run on Nairn Avenue on Tuesday.

Two adults were riding bicycles in the eastbound curb lane of Nairn Avenue, near Kent Street, at about 1 a.m. Tuesday when one was hit and killed.

The dark-coloured Subaru that hit the man raced away from the scene, police said.

The age and name of the man who was hit has not been released. The other cyclist was not hurt.

The 24-year-old accused of being the driver is charged with driving with impaired ability causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving death, police said in a news release.

He is being held in custody.
