The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is asking anyone who may have witnessed a fatal crash on Highway 2 last weekend to come forward.

The unit, which investigates serious incidents involving on- or off-duty police in Manitoba, put the call out Friday for witnesses to the Oct. 9 crash.

Two cars collided on Highway 2, just east of St. Claude, Man. around 11:20 p.m. The crash killed 20-year-old university student Taylor Renwick. It injured the other driver, a 27-year-old man, RCMP said.

Before the crash, RCMP officers chased the 27-year-old's vehicle after reports of a suspected impaired driver near Notre Dame, Man.

Officers apparently found the driver at a gas station before the crash, but he sped off when officers tried to stop him, RCMP said.

Police then pursued him but called off the chase, because the driver was allegedly driving at excessive speeds.

Renwick was hit and killed shortly after that. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Now the IIU wants to hear from people who may have seen what happened.

They believe a semi-trailer truck was driving in the area around the time of the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the unit at 1-844-667-6060.
