Many Manitoba children will be warm this winter thanks to a business that has donated more than $10,000 worth of coats, ski pants and other winter clothes to the United Way of Winnipeg's Koats for Kids program.

TruGreen Metal Recycling arrived at the United Way's Main Street headquarters on Thursday afternoon with the big delivery, which the agency says is the largest single donation the Koats for Kids program has ever received.

The company delivered 100 sets of new coats, snow pants, scarves, mittens and boots.

TruGreen president Miguel Catellier says he and his partners decided at the beginning of this year to donate a portion of their profits to charity and he heard about Koats for Kids on the radio.

Catellier said he and his partners "all believe that when you're blessed that you need to be a blessing, so we just wanted to give back.

"What a better way to give back to this awesome country, which is also very cold, than making sure that kids can, you know, be warm and can play outside?"

Despite the large donation, the United Way says Koats for Kids still needs 900 sets of winter gear for all ages, but especially for children between the ages of six and 10.

Donations can be dropped off at any Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Station or Perth's drycleaners location.
