Living the high life could cost drug dealer his condo, designer clothes

When you live on Wellington Crescent keeping up with the Joneses can be more like keeping up with the Kardashians. Donny Syraxa seemed to be keeping up just fine until police busted him last November.

He could lose his freedom if he's found guilty of cocaine trafficking and other charges. But that's not all he stands to lose.

The government has applied to seize his condo, his car and his designer wardrobe.

The province has made an application to Manitoba's Court of Queen's bench to confiscate Syraxa's valuables alleging they were obtained through the proceeds of crime.

The items the Director of Criminal Property and Forfeiture wants to seize read like the contents of celebrity swag bag:

  • Gucci toque
  • Louis Vuitton travel bag, briefcase plus toque and cashmere scarf
  • Prada down-filled jacket
  • Hermes belt
  • Armani jacket
  • 12 pairs of True Religion jeans
  • Breitling watch

His 1600-square-foot condo is described as an "impressive unit in one of the marquee buildings along the crescent." The building includes round-the-clock concierge service and valet parking, according to a real estate listing for the unit. Inside it boasts a 20-metre balcony, a chef's kitchen, a large open-concept great room surrounded by a wall of windows.

Syraxa is used to living in significantly smaller quarters, though. He was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in Stony Mountain for cocaine trafficking in 2013. He was swept up in the RCMP's Project Dilemma busts in August 2012 which focused on the criminal activities of the Rock Machine Motorcycle Club and high-level drug trafficking cells, according to an RCMP press release. Syraxa was eligible for full parole for that sentence in February 2015.

Nothing has been seized by the province yet. Syraxa has until the end of the month to file a statement of defense. His next court date to face this new round of drug charges is January 2017.
