Manitoba's finance minister says budget won't to be balanced until 2018
On Friday Finance Minister Greg Dewar delivered remarks about the upcoming 2015 budget. He said the government will be running a deficit for the next two years, and it does not intend on balancing the budget until 2018.
"If our economy is so strong why are we running a deficit? Well the answer is that's why our economy is so strong," he said.
Standing in the lot of the future home of a multi-tenant housing complex, Dewar said he is concerned with protecting jobs, services and other economic growth.
"It's a budget designed to keep our momentum going," Dewar said.
Dewar said according to Statistics Canada, Manitoba is expected to have the strongest economic growth in Canada in the next two years, and is creating jobs faster than any other province.
Like last year, the government intends on spending $1-billion on infrastructure.
The full 2015 budget is to be released on April 30.
