School bus rear-ends tractor in southwestern Manitoba, sending 8 kids to hospital

Eight children were sent to hospital with minor injuries on Tuesday morning after a school bus rear-ended a tractor in southwestern Manitoba.

RCMP say they received a report at about 9 a.m. of the collision near the intersection of Road 37 West and Road 43 North in the RM of Grey, about 20 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.

The bus was transporting 31 children in the Prairie Spirit School Division, the Mounties said in a release on Tuesday afternoon.

The tractor was collecting debris gathered by a grader southbound along Road 37 West when it was rear-ended by the school bus, according to the release. The grader was not involved in the collision.

Eight children were taken to hospital with minor injuries, the release said.

Police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident. Both drivers were also taken to hospital as a precaution.
