Water-tasting competition hands top prize to Manitoba company
A Manitoba company has been honoured for producing the best drinking water in the world.
Canadian Gold took top prize at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition in Virginia last weekend.
The company gets its water from a well in Marchand, Man., about 85 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
Peter De Jong owns the bottled water plant as well as a dairy farm in the area.
He said he found out his water won gold from his wife.
"I went in the morning to milk my cows and came in the house before we went to church and my wife says, ‘Well. You won the gold.’ I says, ‘That’s great,’" said De Jong.
Canadian Gold water is sold at small stores and restaurants across southeastern Manitoba.
