Manitobans shed jackets as 11 warm weather records set across province
Dauphin hottest spot in province at 21.5 C but falls just short of 21.7 C record set in 1949
Flashes of unseasonably warm weather swept through the province Sunday, breaking 11 records and tying two others.
Environment Canada meteorologist Dan Fulton said Dauphin was the hottest spot in Manitoba. It reached a high of 21.5 C, falling just short of the record of 21.7 C set on Nov. 6 in 1949.
Portage la Prairie hit 20.9 C, surpassing the 18.7 C high set in 2009.
To the north, the mercury rose to 9.8 C in Gillam, beating out the previous record of 7.8 C set in 1975.
Meanwhile Winnipeg tied its old record of 16.7 C from 1975.
The temperatures Sunday were a far cry from what Winnipeg was treated to on this day in 1986.
The province was pummelled by a blizzard that blew signs off buildings and stranded cars across the city.
The city even loosened a few of its traffic rules for a couple of days, allowing snowmobilers to take advantage of the wide open roadways for emergency use.
Monday Winnipeg forecast:
- Sunny with afternoon clouds.
- High 10 C.
- Wind gusting from 20 to 60 km/h.
- Overnight low of –1 C.
Tuesday is expected to be mainly sunny and reach 11 C.
