Province warns of new measles exposure sites in southwestern Manitoba

The Manitoba government is warning the public about a series of measles exposures in southwestern Manitoba last week.

Health officials say some recent cases have no known contact

The Manitoba government is warning the public about a series of measles exposures in southwestern Manitoba last week.

Public health officials said in an update Tuesday the public might have been exposed to the highly infectious disease at four sites in the community of Boissevain,  about 200 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg, between Wednesday and Friday:

  • Canada Post at 558 Broadway St. between May 7-9 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Goodon Industries Ltd at 252 Mill Rd. between May 7-9 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunrise Credit Union Ltd at 356 South Railway St. between May 7-9 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • RBC at 388 South Railway St. on May 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

People who might have been exposed to the disease and have not been directly contacted by the local health authorities are being asked to watch for symptoms until May 29-31.

Twenty confirmed and four possible measles cases have been reported in the province so far this year, according to data as of May 3.

The province said Tuesday some of the recently reported cases have no known contact with another cases. All known cases reported before that had known contact with measles either during travel or in Manitoba, the release said.
