Member of Winnipeg's Most charged after police raid
A member of hip hop group, Winnipeg's Most, is facing drug charges after being arrested last Friday.
William Keith Pierson, 32, also known as Jon-C, was charged after police raided a home in the 200 block of Lansdowne Avenue.
Police found cocaine, along with marijuana, packaging material, money, cellphones and ballistic body armour.
Pierson has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
He has also been charged for offenses related to the Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act and for failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking from a previous court order.
Pierson's bandmate Jamie Prefontaine believes the group is being wrongfully targeted by police.
"We just had a tour, generated $90,000 plus merchandise. We made over $20,000 in merch and they're saying there was $2,200 in drugs in there. We made over $90,000 — do you think we need to do that?" he said.
"They're making problems for us because they don't want to see us succeed."
The aboriginal musicians have raised themselves out of a life of poverty, drugs and crime to carve out a successful musical career that includes multiple Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.
The police said they do not target any groups or individuals without reason.
