Police seeking dash cam footage related to fatal Marion hit-and-run
Memorial growing near where a woman in her 60s died
Winnipeg police are asking the public for private dash cam footage connected to a hit and run that killed a woman last Thursday.
"This pedestrian was exiting the vehicle," said Murray, adding there's no possible way the driver didn't know they hit someone. "This wasn't a case of somebody getting clipped by a trailer and the driver not knowing about it. We believe this driver fully knows what happened."
Const. Jay Murray said Tuesday the truck was abandoned in the Dufresne area, near Marion and Archibald. Police found the truck a day after the hit and run. Later that day, they also found the trailer in St. Boniface thanks to tips from the public. Murray said one of them was found in a back lane and both were located in residential neighbourhoods.
Murray said police are still investigating if the abandoned vehicles were connected to any homes in the area near where they were found.
Now police are asking for the public to come forth with any video footage of the truck and trailer that may be on privately owned cameras, like dash cams.
"It is believed that this truck and trailer had travelled in the Sargent Park/Minto area at approximately 11 a.m., followed by a section of Harkness Avenue and Main Street near Queen Elizabeth Way prior to the collision," said Murray. "It's a pretty distinct truck and trailer."
Both the truck and the trailer were stolen, but from separate locations, said Murray.
Police are hoping someone might have a description of the driver to give to police. "That's one of the reasons we are requesting this video footage," said Murray.
On Tuesday morning, a memorial was growing at the scene. Several bouquets of flowers and notes were stacked near where the woman died. "I miss you so much," read one. "My heart goes out to your family," read another.
Anyone with information on the hit and run is asked to contact Winnipeg police's Central Traffic Unit at 204-986-6271.
